On October 26, 2017, the Greater Hunts Point Chamber of Commerce presented its 30th Annual Tent Party. Held in, well yes, a TENT in the Hunts Point Meat Market parking lot. A lively crowd of 200 local business leaders, community representatives, public officials and other dignitaries enjoyed a festive afternoon of sumptuous food and drink.
Many thanks to our all-star food and service team of Mr. Babbington & Friends Catering and John V. Lindsay Wildcat Charter School Culinary Program (fearless leader & Exec Chef William Peacock) for the mouth-water array of scallops, shrimp, steak, pork, fish cakes etc. etc. all prepared on the spot at over dozen cooking stations. The merengue/jazz stylings of Enriquillo Tejada y Los Clarinetes Magicos kept the crowd groovin'. GREAT JOB BY ALL!
We are grateful for the enthusiastic support of Congressman Joseph Crowley, and thank State Senator Jeffrey Klein, Assemblyman Marcos Crespo, and Councilmember Rafael Salamanca who attended and presented remarks. Councilmember Salamanca presented City Council Citations to our award winners.
We were thrilled that Senator Klein choose this occasion to present a $995,000 State of New York grant to the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center: $495,000 will fund renovations to the toll plaza at the Hunts Point Meat Market, including a new canopy, three new aluminum attendant booths and a new storage and security center; $500,00 will be used for upgrades to electric power systems at the Hunts Point Produce Market.
