The Hunts Point Development Corporation was founded in 1988 and for over three decades served as a vital support to the Hunts Point Industrial Zone.
In the last several years, Hunts Point EDC has become an affiliate of Urban Health Plan, Inc., as UHP has broadened its work to include not only healthcare but also community development. At the end of 2016, long-time Executive Director Josephine Infante retired and the Board of Directors asked Donald Eversley to step in as Executive Director.
Renamed The Greater Hunts Point Economic Development Corporation in 2017, the organization’s mission is to improve the quality of life for businesses and residents in Hunts Point, Longwood, Port Morris and adjacent South Bronx neighborhoods through advocacy, technical assistance and training.
GHPEDC continues to work with businesses in wholesale food manufacturing and distribution but has also engaged a wider range of business sectors and community development issues, including local workforce development, entrepreneurship, sustainability, transportation and housing. Our membership arm is the Greater Hunts Point Chamber of Commerce.
GHPEDC and Urban Health Plan are not-for-profit corporations and tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
